Title: Impairment of theory of mind in neurodegenerative diseases

Abstract

Theory of mind (ToM) is one of the functions related to Social Cognition. It is a multifaceted construct that implies an understanding of the beliefs, actions and intentions of themselves and other people as separate beings that share a common living-world. Disorders of ToM have been described in different conditions from children to adults. The assessment of ToM in different neurological conditions has been taking part in the last years. The knowledge about the functioning of patients in terms of social cognition it’s a key part of many differential diagnosis. And is being part of the clinical diagnostic criteria of typical neurodegenerative diseases. 

Biography

Francesca Mariani is a Psychologist, specialist in Neuropsychology and has a master degree of Cognitive Science at University of the Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay. She is assistant professor of Neuropsychology and works in research about clinical presentations of neurodegenerative diseases, theory of mind and prevention of cognitive impairment.
