Title: Nutritional approach in mood disorders

Abstract

Many of the mood disorders are amenable to improvement through a non-pharmacological approach. Although it is true that the treatment of choice is pharmacological (antidepressants), in recent decades a series of preventive and therapeutic measures have become established, such as physical exercise or a nutritional approach. One of the fields that is currently being researched the most is the microbiota-gut-brain axis. The state of the intestinal microbiota can influence our behavior and is involved in neuropsychiatric conditions such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative conditions. Several studies, both in murine and human models, have verified an improvement in mood through the introduction of dietary fiber into the diet. These beneficial effects corroborate the clinical experience of doctors who have always reviewed the diets of clients and have introduced improvements in the direction of achieving a diet with a predominance of vegetables. However, the difficulties we come across are, on the part of the client, the difficulty in implementing the recommendations due to apathy, anergy, etc., and on the part of conventional medicine, the reluctance to implement measures that are still being valued by the scientific community.
